OTO from Sonic Geometry
Sonic Geometry is proud to introduce its first product – OTO.
OTO began as a Master’s Thesis Project at the Berklee College of Music in late 2015. Since then, it has evolved continuously, growing substantially in scope. Throughout this process, however, the core aim of the company has remained the same: to make devices that challenge preconceptions about what constitutes an instrument, leveraging the natural symmetries between constructive geometry and familiar tonal structures to make instruments that are both intuitive and profound.
The name ‘OTO’ comes from the Japanese oto-no-katachi, which translates roughly in English to ‘shape of sound’, which reflects the designer’s concept of the controller as a tactile controller for sound manipulation.
OTO is a geometrically intuitive musical instrument and controller that enables users to “touch the shape of sound”. Each OTO controller houses an IMU that communicates with a host computer via Bluetooth. The host computer translates the raw physical data into the musicalized output that users experience. MIDI notes, CC data, frequency bands and filter-sweeps… with OTO the possibilities are endless.
The current suite of software patches is only the beginning.
With OTO you can play synths, DJ, perform live electronic music, and even control your favorite Digital Audio Workstations such as Ableton and Traktor. Each set of OTO controllers will ship with a suite of both standalone and DAW controller software, meaning both novice and experienced artists, musicians, DJs alike can use OTO exactly how they want.
