Ryuichi Sakamoto is releasing a new album
The Japanese artist will release the LP through Milan Records, the label that put out his score to Alejandro González Iñárritu’s film The Revenant, which he co-wrote with Alva Noto and Bryce Dessner. Sakamoto’s website currently has a countdown to the new album’s release date—March 29th in Japan and April 28th elsewhere. It also displays the message “SN/M比50%,” which could be a clue to the LP’s title.
Sakamoto, an influential composer and musician and founding member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but issued a statement the following year saying he was in “great shape” and was returning to work.
